I’ve created a new WordPress theme for the site. I wanted it to have more of “my own” look and feel to it.
The site will probably undergo some tweaks with the new theme - there are things I know don’t work out quite correctly, and some things that I probably don’t know enough about CSS, PHP, WordPress, etc., to know that they’re incorrect.
Eventually I’d like my photo galleries to be entirely contained within the look of this site. Right now they’re all exported Aperture Web Gallery’s. I want to get away from that, and have a consistent look to the site.
I’m pretty pleased with the look, although there’s much I still need to do.
Went this past weekend to the Renaissance Festival with Jenny. Got some great pictures, but have yet to get them ready for posting. Between prepping those and wanting to re-theme my picture sites, it may be a few days (weeks? eek!). Anyways…
Got two book in the mail this morning from Amazon: Macro Photography (by Haje Jan Kamps, of PhotoCritic fame), and The Art & Science of CSS (by Cameron Adams, et al). The first I got for my interest in photography, the other since I’ve been considering a redesign of the sight (essentially making it my own, instead of a prepackaged WordPress theme), or at least to customize my photograph galleries (notice how they’re all using different themes? Aperture’s themes don’t all grab me the same, and I’d like to create something I can use consistently).
Now we’ll see how much time I have to work on it. Or if, in fact, I get ambitious enough to start…
Went with Jenny to Marathon City, Wisconsin this past weekend - where every Labor Day, “Marathon City Fun Days” is held. In addition, this year was the city’s sesquicentennial, so there were several historical events and displays. Jenny goes there every year because her mother is originally from Marathon, and her grandmother still lives there. Since her aunts and uncles are all nearby as well, it’s a giant family get-together (her mother has six sibblings). So Jenny met my father’s side over the 4th of July, and I meet her mother’s side over Labor Day. Seems fair…
Now, meeting six pairs of aunts and uncles, plus assorted cousins, is a tough assignment. Particularly when my brain, despite my genuine efforts to the contrary, hears this when I meet people: “Hi, I’m *static*, nice to meet you!” Actually I’m really good at remembering names. I’m even better at remembering faces. It’s the whole pairing-them-together thing I’m not good at… So, to Mia, Abby, Sarah, Michael, Rachel, Troy, and Ron: Yay, I’ve got the name/face pairing down! To everyone else I met this weekend: sorry, I’ll get there eventually!
That’s not to say I didn’t get pictures of lots of people - in fact, I probably have everyone in a picture somewhere or other… Typical of the geek I’ve become with my camera, I lugged a whole mess of equipment with to Wisconsin. And of course the only things I actually used where the camera, lenses, and one flash. My tripod and light stand/umbrellas stayed at the house. Maybe if we’d had more time that wasn’t doing something fair or parade related. The only thing I didn’t bring, and the one that I could actually have used, was my small monopod - for several of the low-light shots where I wasn’t looking for a sense of motion…
Anyways, I’ve gone over the photos and created a gallery of them… Now on my Photography page.
