Weird Al at the Minnesota State Fair

August 29th, 2007

Went with Jenny to the Minnesota State Fair on Monday. Spent the day wandering around, seeing the normal State Fair sights: animals, arts and crafts exhibits, various peoples wandering around. Jenny was excited to see the parade, since her high school’s marching band was in it.

We didn’t eat too much exotic foods, the closest probably being the deep-fried Mars candy bar. We happened upon a stand selling them, and I figured I should actually try one before knocking it down. Unexpectedly, I must admit it was pretty good - not something I’d have often, mind you, but okay in very infrequent doses. Otherwise our food consisted of a corn-dog apiece, a slice of pizza, french fries, burgers, and a couple beverages.

In the evening, Weird Al was performing at the grandstand. A large group of MakeMusic employees had purchased a block of seats, and one of them had assisted Weird Al years before and so arranged for some backstage passes for after the concert. The concert was excellent, and I got quite a few good pictures. Afterwards, we wandered down to the line for backstage access. After a long wait, and some freaking out over the amount of time before our bus left, the whole crew was able to get a group picture with Weird Al. I felt kinda bad for him, actually - he just looked exhausted. After a long, high-energy concert, I can’t say I blame him.

Eventually, we made our way home - tired but satisfied with our State Fair experience!

Glacier Pictures

August 5th, 2007

I’ve now posted my selected pictures from Glacier. I feel like I’m getting a bit better taking them - maybe not. Maybe it’s just that with everything that has gone on this past couple weeks I’m feeling less and less like dinking around with them in Aperture or Photoshop when they’re perfectly fine without. As it is, I’ve left most of them un-touched. A couple I’ve cropped for better composition, and only a few needed some exposure adjustment to fix some blown highlights or over-dark shadows. But otherwise, here they are!
