Amadeus

July 30th, 2007

I have been gone for over a week for a family vacation to Glacier National Park, in Montana. I have lots of pictures (still to be processed), but before I have time to get to that I want to mention some sad news.

Amadeus, my wonderful, beautiful feline companion, died suddenly on the morning of Friday, July 20 (the morning of the day we left for Glacier). During his morning crazies, he apparently suffered a mishap running from the bathroom into my bedroom. I was still in bed at the time (trying to catch some last minute sleep before the trip), and started when I heard the crash at my feet. I was immediately concerned because he didn’t instantly get up and scamper away.

By the time I scrambled out of bed and over to him, he was essentially gone - it appears that he broke his neck in the crash. I find some consulation in that it was so quick that he did not suffer. However, he will be missed very much.

I am thankful to have discovered photography during his time with me, so the past year has been fairly well documented. I’ll try to come up with a memorial photo journal and replace the current “cat” page, but at the moment I’m still coming to grips with Amadeus not being around.

My love to Jenny and my father for having interrupted their day to help me through the shock.

Caught in the Act

Jenny’s cat Maizy, caught tasting the flowers I’d brought over…

4th of July

So we had the big get-together at Faith and Steve’s. Brought the camera this year, so I can retaliate against all the years of getting incessantly photographed at the event by Faith. Figured if she gave me too much grief I’d set the camera to the smallest JPEG format, and unleash a high-speed burst for 10 seconds or so…

Anyways, got some decent ones, and later in the evening captured a few decent fireworks shots, too. I’ll post some of those when I got the chance to really review them. But for now, there’s one I really wanted to put somewhere - this is my aunt’s cat, Big Boy. This photo turned out in natural low-key (this is straight out of the camera):
