State Fair time! Radio ads mention something about “100,000,000,000,000 calories in one place”. Looks like it- corndogs, funnel cakes, everything-fried-on-a-stick. I’m going twice this year, too, which is unusual. Went with Katie today, going with the Marching Band tomorrow. I probably won’t stay too long with the Marching Band, though. Finish the parade, then head home. Unless I get a hankering for overpriced food.
I did get some good stuff at the fair, though. Honey, buckwheat and some varieties of creamed; a windchime, which I’ve needed to pick up for the house for ages; and some cutlery, as my set is fairly limited. Anyways…
Lots of big horses, though. I’m rather fond of the draft-horse variety, but it’s freaky watching those guys plod through a heavy crowd of people…
Got the tree taken out. More sequence pictures coming soon, but for now, here’s before and after:

Sounds like it. I’m looking forward to having a good laptop, but that will probably mean it’s easier to take work home with me. Particularly since I’ll be able to work on whatever platform we’re currently focusing on… Right now, we’re going to have a focus on Macs. I’ve been able to get some of the Mac work done without even being on a Mac (splitting resource files).
Hisssth… Whenever I chat with Gary at work about Python and Perl, the conversation tends to move towards the Parrot project, leading Allen to squawk. He seems strangely good at that…
Sinking my teeth into more Python code as a step towards taking on one of my desired projects. Perhaps this one will have some usefulness to work, although it’s similar to some Perl code we have out there and I’m not sure whether it could/would replace that.
Spent the day digging rock away from an Elm tree in my back yard. The tree is infected with Dutch Elm disease, so it has to go, and to remove it completely (as is required by the city), I have to get the stump ground down. To do so, I need to remove any landscaping around the tree.
Painfully hard work. Remind me never to put rock down around anything else. Over the years the rock had settled, mixed in with composting leaves, etc. Eventually the previous owners would put more rock down. I noticed at least three distict types of rock layers. All told most areas seemed to have about 6″ of rock, some having more. And of course the insects loved burrowing into this rock/soil mix.
The roots are much more exposed than they before. We’ve pulled almost a foot of soil and rocks away from some parts. There are, however, a few metal bits that have either been embedded in the tree, or the roots have grown around. Hopefully when the tree gets removed, the tree service can handle those pieces.
Okay, I’ve moved the WordPress site to the main Nysaverse website. I’m going to be playing with PHP, and make some changes to the WordPress theme, and figure I’m going to be using this as the main page.
Okay, me being silly and geeking-out over being truly the first post. Oh well. If you don’t like it, get your own. What to write about?
